My mum was diagnosed with mouth cancer which took my family by surprise. Despite always attending regular dental check-ups, never smoking and having a healthy lifestyle, my mum still got cancer. Because of this I wanted to do my bit to raise awareness of mouth cancer and how it can affect anyone. By spreading awareness of Mouth Cancer Action I wanted people to become aware of the symptoms and preventative measures. Can you describe what your fundraising event was? To fundraise I chose to train and run the Eden Project half marathon. Whilst training and attending warm up races in my Mouth Cancer Action vest people often asked about the charity, so not only did I raise money for the charity, but I raised awareness too! Why did you choose to do this? I choose to this because I wanted to not only challenge myself but to raise awareness of this particular type of cancer. What was your best fundraising moment? My best fundraising moment was crossing the finish line knowing I have raised more than I had hoped for Mouth Cancer Action and I continued to raise more awareness wearing my Mouth Cancer Action vest on the race day! What top tips do you have for fundraisers to be? My top tip fundraisers, particularly running for sponsorship, would be to create an online fundraising page. This can easily be shared all over social media pages and is a great way to keep an active total of your fundraising efforts. Manage Cookie Preferences
